An essay for a writing class

This week, instead of writing about my perception, I would like to demonstrate my entrance essay to Mr. Nam’s writing class which has gained its reputation for teaching critical writing ability. Later that day, Mr.Nam responded that I am good enough for advanced class which will start within 10 days. So, I am considering my schedule and total fee for joining the course. Good luck to me. 

The topic is described below:

In a complete essay of no less than 400 words, please describe how open you are to new ideas and perspectives, and how you perceive assisting others can help you attain your goals. 

Many ideas came out during coffee time

Dear Mr. Nam,

I am writing this essay because it is among the requirements for enrolling your begin writing class. My motivation is to improve my general writing skill. In fact, I usually find it hard when trying to organize ideas, accumulate academic vocabularies, and logically arrange paragraphs for IELTS essays or English notes. A friend of mine, who is your former student, highly recommended Mr.Nam’s courses. So after some searches, I decided to send you this email in order to secure my seat for the next class.

First of all, to answer how I am open to new perspective, it depends on which specific aspect is mentioned about. In daily life, I usually build my own comfort zones by preparing everything that could help me save time and concentrate on other things rather than ask myself the same questions everyday such as what I am going to wear. In this aspect, I am a little stubborn if something changes out of my control.

In contrast, despite I like to enjoy a cup of coffee at the familiar corner in the familiar café, I am always in the mood of trying new foods in a strange restaurant whenever I hang out with my friends. I would say that it is more comfortable when I am active for new ideas. Moreover, I would recognize myself as an open-minded person in working and learning fields. As a software engineer, quickly mastering new perspectives is a vital skill. The projects change frequently lead to a continuously update of ideas which require me to adapt instantly.

Second, I strongly agree that assisting others means helping myself. I have experience in teaching algorithms and job foundation skills for new software engineer. It is a good opportunity to review my knowledge and understand the basis deeper. In return, they show me their way of thinking or new methods which sometimes I could apply to solve my issues. I think that is still true in learning English.

About my weakness, I have to admit that “good memory” is not the right word to describe me. I can read a lot, but I could quickly forget them if they are not reviewed frequently. As a result, instead of implementing a new method, I would fall back to implement an old habit, then nothing new is achieved. So I hope that taking your course with good attitude would help me change the mindset. Not only I learn for completing your assignments, but also absorb the way you think and your writing style and make them become my intrinsic ability.
